Australian Fishing Enterprises (AFE) was formed in 1987 by Mr. Sime (Sam) Sarin. Sam is one of the pioneers of the Southern Bluefin Tuna (SBT) industry in Australia. Sam came to Australia as a Croatian immigrant in the 1950’s, and has grown AFE to be one of the largest tuna ranching companies in the world. AFE holds almost half of all SBT quota in Australia.
Over the last 40 years, the company has seen the evolution of the SBT industry – from wild caught, to the far more sophisticated tuna ranching method adopted today. Until the early 1990’s SBT was traditionally a canned product. It is now predominantly sold as a premium sushi product to an international market.
AFE, as part of the Sarin Group, has been a dedicated contributor to the Port Lincoln community. The company employs up to 300 staff, and is one of the region’s largest employers. AFE’s mission is to be the most professional, ethical and efficient tuna ranching company in the world.
